Wavetrend Named A Finalist For RFID Journal Awards In The Category Most Innovative Use Of RFID
Wavetrend Technologies Ltd, a world leader in the deployment of active RFID Solutions, announced recently that it is a finalist for the 2009 RFID Journal Award in the category of Most Innovative Use of RFID. Wavetrend was nominated for a groundbreaking tracking solution it implemented for Endemol UK, one of Britain's largest independent entertainment production companies.
In a first for reality television, the producers of Celebrity Big Brother 2009 commissioned Wavetrend to install a network of its active RFID readers in strategic locations throughout the Big Brother house. The housemates were then each issued a Wavetrend personnel tag to be worn at all times during their stay in the house. Working within a condensed timeframe, Wavetrend surveyed the area and designed and installed the house-wide tracking system in less than three weeks.
The show's viewers were able to follow the movement of the housemates via a studio display that replicated the house floor plan and contained tracking beacons for each person. The collected data provided the viewers - and the program psychologists – with a new level of insight into the movement patterns and behavior of the housemates. Wavetrend's technology revealed where housemates were spending the majority of their time, and with whom they were spending that time. That information could then be used during the interviews of evicted contestants.
