LITTLETON, Mass. --(Business Wire)-- WaveMark, Inc., provider of real-time inventory management solutions for high value specialty products within the healthcare supply chain, announced today that John Wass, CEO, will co-present an educational session on the use and impact of RFID for managing inventory in an acute care hospital with WaveMark customer Al McClatchey, PA-C, vice president, Mercy Heart Hospital, during the RFID World conference. The oldest and longest running conference on RFID technology, RFID World runs September 8-10 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

What: How RFID Enables Efficient Clinical Workflow at Mercy Medical Center

When: Tuesday, September 9; 3:00 - 3:50 p.m.

Where: MGM Grand Casino 7 Resort; Room 123

Track: Hospital & Healthcare

The 50-minute presentation will explore how RFID is being used safely and effectively by hospitals across the country to improve patient safety through better management of cardiac cath lab inventory. The presentation will highlight Mercy Medical Center's specific experience with WaveMark CIMS RFID inventory management solution to illustrate the benefits and impact of RFID on clinical workflow, operational efficiencies, and patient care.

"As RFID technology evolves, we believe it will have a powerful impact far beyond automated processes and cost savings," said John Wass, CEO, WaveMark, Inc. "Our collaboration with Mercy Medical Center is a great example of the capability of RFID technology to enable efficient clinical workflow that impacts patient safety."

WaveMark was a 2007 recipient of CMP Media's RFID Excellence in Business Award for the successful implementation of its RFID-enabled inventory and usage tracking solution at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. The highly successful pilot was due in large part to WaveMark's extensive collaboration with Edwards Lifesciences to provide pre-tagged inventory to Mercy Medical Center providing greater control and visibility into the inventory lifecycle. WaveMark's technology and partnership with suppliers resulted in dramatic labor and cost reductions for Mercy's CATH Lab and led to the topic of the session being presented at RFID World on September 9th.

"Mercy Medical Center has always tried to take advantage of the latest technologies, such as RFID, to provide our staff with the best tools to do their jobs and serve our patients," said Al McClatchey, vice president, Mercy Heart Hospital. "WaveMark's solution has allowed us to manage the demands surrounding inventory and cost containment while extending our commitment to patient safety."
