SkyeTek Adds Support For UHF RFID ICs From EM Microelectronics

SkyeTek, Inc., the leading provider of embedded RFID reader technology, announced recently that its M9 SkyeModule will support a fullcommand set of EM4122 and EM4444 UHF ICs from EM Microelectronics (EM). In cooperation with EM, SkyeTek has completed deep reader/tag integration to support thefull lines of commands of the EM ICs. Support of these tags allows SkyeTek to offer one of the highest performing and low cost tag and reader solutions in the market.

EM Microelectronic, the semiconductor company of the Swatch Group, is a world-leading manufacturer of ultra low-power, low-voltage integrated circuits (ICs) and has been ranked number two of global vendors of RFID transponder ICs last December bymarket research group ABI.

"EM Microelectronics is another example of an innovative organization we have cooperated with that further enhances our high performance and low-cost RFID reader technology," said Rob Balgley, CEO of SkyeTek. "By integrating with EM, we are better able to deploy RFID in applications such as anti-counterfeiting, asset tracking, and itemlevel inventory. This enables organizations of all kinds to benefit from RFID as more than just barcode, but rather as a networked technology."

EM Microelectronics offers a complete portfolio of read-only UHF RFID ICs that enable transponders for any application requiring long range and high speed identification. The ICs are suitable for applications such as access control, airline baggage, anticounterfeiting, handheld reading, item-level inventory, and supply chain management. The EM4122 and EM4444 are the hallmark UHF RFID ICs and feature a factory programmed 64 bit serial unique ID umber, high reading data rates, user programmable and lockable memory, low voltage operation, easy antenna development and operate at temperatures between -40 to +85C.

SkyeTek's SkyeModule M9 is the world's smallest, least expensive, globally compliant UHF RFID reader module. Approximately half the size of a business card, the M9 was designed for embedded UHF applications. The M9's combination of high performance, security, and cost/space/power efficiency make it the industry's price performance leader delivering unparalleled size. Furthermore, SkyeTek's SkyeWare software enables simple demonstration of tags and easy application integration with its common and intuitive APIs.

The new EM-compliant M9 is available today through SkyeTek's M9 Developer Kit,which comes with a complete RFID solution that allows for quick demonstration and Gareth Walter Kristin Cronin proof-of-concept development when integrating RFID into applications or products. EM Microelectronics also offers its EM UHF RFID Developer Kit which features SkyeTek's M9 reader module and EM's UHF tag assortment based on the 4x22, 4x44 and the upcoming EM4324, EM's first EPC C1 Gen2 compliant transponder chip.
