TransCore Presents On RFID-Based AVI Technologies At Parking Conference

Applying RFID-based automatic vehicle identification (AVI) technologies to the parking industry is a topic that TransCore, the leading developer of AVI parking and access control solutions, recently addressed at the Parking Association of the Virginias' annual workshop. David Tilley, TransCore's regional sales manager, Commercial RFID Technologies, explained how RFID and AVI technologies work and the types of low-cost vehicle tags TransCore has developed.

RFID and AVI parking solutions have been proven to be more efficient and ultimately less costly than traditional swipe cards or keypads. The technology improves the customer experience because vehicles do not have to stop when entering or exiting a parking area. The system "reads" the vehicle's identity and transfers the data to an automatic payment system.

TransCore has successfully implemented the solution to define parking access in settings where multiple users have varying permissions. Universities especially can benefit from this solution since they have different levels of users, such as faculty, staff and students.

Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS) is one of 31 universities using TransCore parking solutions. Deborah Taylor, EVMS director of information technology and chief information officer, is a proponent. "TransCore clearly understands the success of a parking system is tied to acceptance by the patron who uses the parking facility," says Taylor.
