RFID Solution: Pramari Announces Open Source RFID Simulation Product

Pramari, a world leader in Open Source RFID software, recently announced the public release of Rifidi Designer. Built in collaboration with the University of Arkansas and other leading RFID organizations, Rifidi Designer marks the first product providing an end to end solution for building and simulating RFID business processes.

Rifidi Designer is a design and modeling product which enables the creation of a simulated RFID infrastructure. Using Rifidi Designer users can design a real-world view of their business process and 'virtualize' the critical RFID components. This provides users the ability to perform 'what-if' analysis on a given process well in advance of making the full RFID investment.

Pramari, the University of Arkansas and others have also partnered to provide a standard means for defining RFID business processes. These business processes will be bundled with Rifidi Designer providing baseline templates in the areas of supply chain management, DoD, healthcare and point of sale enabling end users to rapidly customize scenarios specific to their organization's needs.

"We believe developing a common approach to describing RFID business processes is a necessary step for accelerating RFID adoption," said Justin Patton, Lab Director at the University of Arkansas Research Center.

Hardware vendors and system integrators have also seen the power that such a tool can bring to their sales and adoption efforts. Rifidi Designer will speed up development by virtualizing all the RFID components and reduce costs in prototyping scenarios.

"The ability to simulate an RFID process in software allows customers to analyze and visualize the benefits of RFID systems," said George Lu, VP of Business Development at AWID. "Customers and end users are better educated and this leads to faster adoption of RFID technologies."

More information on Rifidi Designer is available on www.rifidi.org or on Sourceforge (sourceforge.net/projects/rifidi/).
