White Paper: RFID In Manufacturing From Compliance To ROI
By Ken Congdon, Integrated Solutions magazine
The manufacturing industry was a hotbed of RFID activity between 2003 and 2006, as manufacturers implemented pilot systems in an effort to comply with supplier and retailer mandates for tagged finished goods. However, over the past few years, the parameters of these mandates have softened, and manufacturers are now less compelled to deploy systems for compliance purposes alone. On the surface, this may lead you to believe that the RFID party is over in manufacturing. This couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, according to the ARC Advisory Group, RFID applications in manufacturing are expected to grow at an 8.9% compounded annual growth rate over the next three years — creating a market worth a projected $319.5 million by the end of 2011. This begs the question: If compliance isn't driving this growth, then what is?
