RFID In Healthcare Video
This video showcases RFID in the healthcare industry. The Academic Medical Centre Amsterdam (AMC) optimizes patient logistics, material usage, and blood supply in its surgery complex using RFID technology.
It would be fair to say that RFID technology and its application within the healthcare environment are far from presenting a simple, standard solution. However, the possible gains in transparency, patient safety and efficiency mean that the efforts involved are more than justified.
The three AMC pilot studies clearly demonstrate the added value of the application of RFID in healthcare. A business case is used to show the possible cost/benefit outcomes of a large-scale implementation. Further research into a number of specific issues will however be essential in order to simplify future applications, for example the measurement of temperature fluctuations using RFID.
The challenges to come will relate primarily to the analysis of data obtained through the application of RFID, and the translation of that data into concrete improvements in process.
