Case Study: RFID Improves Industrial Asset Tracking

By Brian Albright, Integrated Solutions magazine

Maintenance and repair operations face unique asset tracking challenges. Service technicians handle thousands of tools and pieces of equipment each day, from massive generators to tiny drill bits. Tools can be easily lost, damaged or stolen, and tracking this dynamic and expensive inventory is notoriously difficult. But many companies have begun creatively using technology to improve both asset utilization and employee productivity.

HOLT CAT, a privately owned Caterpillar dealership with more than 500 employees, is one such company. HOLT has leveraged a real-time RFID tracking system to better manage its tool inventory while boosting technician productivity, all while saving thousands of dollars each month in lost labor.
