Real-Time Identification: Patient Care Technology Systems And Sonitor Technologies Announce Integration Of Workflow Solutions

Patient Care Technology Systems (PCTS), a subsidiary of Consulier Engineering, Inc., and Sonitor Technologies recently announced a strategic alliance to jointly market their hospital workflow technologies. Under the agreement, the companies will coordinate sales and marketing efforts to provide a turnkey workflow solution that integrates Sonitor's ultrasound-based indoor positioning system with PCTS' Amelior automatic patient and asset tracking software. The integrated system will provide real-time identification of patient care milestones and the reliably accurate location of clinical resources for caregivers in areas such as the emergency, surgery and outpatient services departments. Caregivers will be better able to anticipate and manage workflows for safer and more efficient care as a result.

"The ultrasound locating technology from Sonitor represents a compelling new alternative for collecting accurate, room or sub-room-level location data," said Tony Marsico, CEO of PCTS. "Sonitor's application of ultrasound technology delivers real-time locating data for our automatic patient and asset tracking software to measure interactions between caregivers, patients and medical equipment. The integration of our technologies represents a new turnkey workflow automation option for healthcare providers."

"Following several recent hospital contracts, Sonitor's alliance with PCTS signifies another milestone in the market's increasing recognition of the importance of reliable real-time location data as input to automated workflow and operational visibility and analysis solutions for healthcare facilities," said Terry Aasen, CEO of Sonitor Technologies, Inc.

The Sonitor indoor positioning system (IPS) uses Detectors and Tags that are linked through the existing wired or wireless local area network (LAN) to a digital file containing all vital statistics and information about the item or person being monitored. The motion activated Tag transmits a unique identification signal using ultrasound waves to special Detectors that use Sonitor patented ultrasound signal Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms. The Detectors transmit signals via an existing LAN to a central computer that stores the information about the Tag's room-location and the time of receipt of the signal. Sonitor's ultrasound technology ensures that detectors interpret tag signals without risk of interference from any environmental noise or other signals, nor interfere with sensitive instruments. The system is designed for safety and all emitted sound pressure levels are within the international regulations for the safe use of ultrasound.

PCTS markets the Amelior suite of department-specific and enterprise-wide automatic tracking software which integrate real-time location data with the software's automatic workflow intelligence to provide context-aware insights on patient care progression. An integrated reporting module provides granular time-stamped data on patient flow and department utilization to support retrospective department efficiency analysis. The web-based Amelior automatic patient and asset tracking software is available for emergency department, surgical suite, outpatient services and enterprise-wide implementations.
