Broadest portfolio of form factors for high performance on, off and in-metal RFID technology

Omni-ID, the original inventor, patent holder and supplier of high-performance, on-metal passive UHF RFID tags, announced recently a new family of products designed specifically for attaching to, or embedding into tools and other equipment to enable inventory tracking, location monitoring, foreign object detection and maintenance tracking in a variety of environments.

"We were searching for a way to provide full 24/7 access to the rental tools and equipment that we typically manually deliver and distribute on-site to our customers," said Glyn Matthews, Senior Project Manager, Speedy Services, the largest UK based tool and equipment rental company. "We tested a variety of RFID solutions, but only Omni-ID tags provided the variety of sizes along with consistent performance and reliability we needed for our new on-site, self-service ‘pod'. Workers enter the pod, and they automatically check in/out the necessary tools via RFID, it's all tracked and accounted for – it's that simple," added Mr. Matthews.

This unique solution from Speedy Services solution featuring Omni-ID tags has been named a 2012 RFID Journal Awards finalist. The awards are given annually to end-user companies that have demonstrated the use of RFID technology to enhance an existing product or service and provide additional value to its customers.

"For a number of years, we've been working with customers in the manufacturing, logistics and industrial assets industries and have seen the broader need for a better way to track tools for maintenance compliance, inventory management and foreign object detection really emerge," said George E. Daddis, Jr., PhD, CEO of Omni-ID. "Based on these requirements we were able to develop a complete family of tags that are ergonomically correct, adaptable at the point of manufacture or post-production and that works on, off or in-metal. Better yet, along with our broad network of global partners we can provide an end-to-end solution that includes integration into your existing systems and process."

Omni-ID's portfolio of Tool Tracking products now includes 10 new highly durable tags in a variety of shapes and sizes that can be inserted, embedded or attached to a variety of metal and plastic tools, as well as a flexible tag for cables and other tubular assets. The tags will make their formal debut April 3, 2012 at the RFID Journal LIVE! trade show in Orlando, FL.
