Nine ODIN technologies Engineers Earn CompTIA RFID+ Certification
The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), the world's largest provider of vendor neutral certifications for professionals in the information technology (IT) industry, and ODIN technologies announced today that nine ODIN technologies engineers have earned CompTIA RFID+ certification since the exam's launch in late March.
"CompTIA RFID+ certification ensures all of our new hires have a foundational level of RFID knowledge commensurate with their focus," said Patrick Sweeney, chief executive officer, ODIN technologies, a CompTIA RFID+ cornerstone company. "It also provides ODIN with outside validation of our knowledge base, giving us even more credibility with customers. We plan to use CompTIA RFID+ as a desirable hiring credential when we're interviewing new RF engineers."
The newly certified engineers hold titles such as RF engineer, RFID system architect, RF technician, and director of professional services. Beginning in the third quarter of 2006, ODIN will also require its software development team to become CompTIA RFID+ certified.
"It wasn't something we had originally envisioned using the certification for," Sweeney said. "But we decided it would be a good way to help new software developers understand what is required in the field from an RF perspective. This will help our development team understand exactly what tools are required for world-class deployments."
Sweeney said he anticipates having 20-25 certified engineers by the end of 2006.
"We will get new hires certified when they come on board and have additional existing staff go through the course as they roll off deployments," he added.
"CompTIA RFID+ was created to address the looming skills shortage for RFID professionals," said David Sommer, vice president, e-business and software solutions, CompTIA. "That an RF technology innovator and market leader such as ODIN technologies is using it with their own employees is confirmation that the exam validates the skills required to work with RFID. It also shows their commitment to the CompTIA RFID+ credential as the standard for foundation-level skills.
