HID Global recently extended its product portfolio of RFID tags for a broad spectrum of industries and applications, adding several solutions which feature a broadband Self Resonance Frequency (SRF) from 860 to 960 MHz that specifically supports North American frequency requirements. These products include the company's latest Electronic Product Code Global (EPCglobal) Class 1 Gen 2 UHF On Metal RTI Transponder (Returnable Transport Item) solution that allows up to 7 meters read range worldwide without any performance reduction, and the InLine 120/52 UHF tag design that combines the greatest size-to-performance ratio with fast, accurate container identification, a 6-meter read range, and rugged design.

Research firm IDTechEx said in its July report entitled "RFID Forecasts, Players & Opportunities 2011-2021" that 43 percent of the 2.31 billion RFID tags shipped during 2010 will be sold and used in North America. The firm said it expects the value of the entire RFID market to reach $5.63 billion during 2010, up from $5.03 billion in 2009. This includes tags, readers and software/services for RFID cards, labels, fobs and all other form factors.
