AIM Global's RFID Connections interviewed Eric Eckstein, President and C.O.O. of Two Technologies about his views on intriguing applications for, and the future of, RFID.
Where do you see the greatest growth in the use of RFID these days? Meaning, supply chain, closed systems, or both?
Eric Eckstein: Really both, but closed systems are where we've seen the vast amount of growth over the last two plus years. Two Technologies has really invested into the high frequency, 13.56 area, in a very deep way. And, being very frank, Europe and Asia have really taken off with those technologies, and the United States to a lesser extent. We haven't seen a lot of growth in the adoption of EPC beyond the area of the retail supply chain and DoD supply chains and haven't seen it break out beyond that. It is growing; obviously there are a lot of players in that market, but the closed loops are really where the value proposition has to come into play. Because they are smaller, they get a lot more dedicated application work done to develop the return on investment and really take advantage of some of the technologies.
