AeroScout Brings Campus-Wide Wi-Fi-Based RFID Tracking To Lincoln University And Strong Rock Christian School
AeroScout, Inc., the leading provider of Unified Asset Visibility solutions, recently announced that two educational institutions – Lincoln University and Strong Rock Christian School – have recently implemented its visibility solution to enhance campus security. Lincoln University is using AeroScout technology to track the location of valuable school equipment, while Strong Rock Christian School is using AeroScout technology as a safety application to track visitors, all in real time over their existing Wi-Fi networks.
"Wi-Fi is becoming pervasive in educational institutions from elementary schools to universities, and this infrastructure can be leveraged for visibility solutions," said Gabi Daniely, Vice President of Marketing and Product Strategy at AeroScout. "Unified Asset Visibility already helps many organizations in the healthcare, manufacturing and logistics industries significantly improve their operations. It's also a natural fit for educational institutions that can use their existing networks to improve security and monitor mobile assets."
Lincoln University, a four-year liberal arts college in Pennsylvania that serves 1,800 undergraduate and 500 graduate students, is using AeroScout's solution to track the real-time location of equipment, such as television cameras, portable digital video recorders and maintenance equipment. AeroScout T3 Wi-Fi-Based Active RFID tags are affixed to university equipment and communicate with Lincoln's Cisco Unified Wireless Network. AeroScout's MobileView software then displays the location of the tags in real time, and if a tagged piece of equipment leaves its predetermined zone, an alert is automatically sent to the university's IT department. Lincoln also plans to tag IT assets, such as PCs, and use the AeroScout solution to improve the IT department's workflow.
"We've invested in specialized equipment and technologies, such as professional video equipment, to provide our students with the best possible hands-on education," said Steve Carol, Chief Information Systems Technology Officer at Lincoln University. "We therefore want to make sure these important education tools are kept secure and, at the same time, accessible to our staff and student body. AeroScout's visibility solution enables us to know precisely where these assets are at all times."
Strong Rock Christian School of Locust Grove, Georgia, includes an elementary school, middle school and high school on its 168-acre campus. Strong Rock is using AeroScout's solution to track the location of visitors in real time to ensure campus security and student safety. All campus visitors, including parents, contractors, and outside vendors, are provided with AeroScout T2 Tags that communicate with Strong Rock's Cisco Unified Wireless Network, which also provides Internet access to faculty and students while they're in motion on campus. AeroScout's MobileView software displays the location of each person wearing a clip-on tag in real time on a map of the campus monitored by school security. If a visitor, such as a repairperson, is not in their intended destination on campus, the AeroScout solution alerts security.
