Bartronics America Receives 3 Patent Ribbon Copies For RFID Wristbands

Bartronics America, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bartronics India Limited (Bartronics), one of India's largest bar code and RFID technology companies, recently announced that it has received three patent ribbon copies from the United States Patent Office (USPO) for RFID wristbands which can be used in applications ranging from healthcare to leisure and entertainment.

Two of these patents enhance the security of RFID wristbands important in protecting patient information or money in a cashless payment environment such as a theme park.

Patent Number 7,535,356 describes a conductive fastener that connects the RFID wristband so that when the wristband is torn off it breaks a security circuit. Patent Number 7,579,950 describes a technique to extend the RFID antenna around holes used to snap the wristband together in a serpentine fashion to provide addition wristband security.

The third, Patent Number 7,562,445 and by far the most significant one of the trio, describes a method of manufacturing a two-layer secure RFID wristband. By using only two layers, this new method reduces material costs of manufacturing RFID wristbands.
