Avery Dennison Offers Gen 2 RFID Inlays At Lowest Price In Industry

Avery Dennison RFID, a global provider in the RFID (radio frequency identification) marketplace, today announced that its new AD-220 Gen 2 inlay product is now available at a price of 7.9 cents per unit, based on order quantities of at least one million units. The Company said it is also offering its two core Gen 1 inlay products, the AD-210 and the AD-410, at the same price of 7.9 cents per unit.

"We are pleased to offer the lowest price for RFID inlays in the marketplace, for both Gen 2 and Gen 1 products," said Mat Mellis, vice president RFID and specialty converting with Avery Dennison RFID. "By providing low-cost RFID inlays, we expect to accelerate the adoption of RFID technology for global supply chain and inventory management operations at companies around the world. The introduction of Gen 2 products is an important step in driving widespread implementation of RFID, and reduced tag costs will be instrumental in providing the financial return demanded by customers as they deploy RFID."

All three of the inlay products that are offered at the new price point are manufactured with Avery Dennison's breakthrough high-speed process which delivers high-quality RFID tags 10 times faster than conventional production methods, enabling the Company to fill high-volume orders of Gen 2 and Gen 1 products.

The Company's AD-220 inlay is the world's first high-performance Gen 2 RFID tag available in high volumes. A general-purpose, small-format inlay that matches the footprint of existing Gen 1 inlays, the AD-220 features a flexible and robust antenna design with an ultra-smooth surface for superior label printability, durability and performance.

The AD-210, a Gen 1 inlay designed for use with a variety of carton contents, delivers printer yields of 98 percent or better as tested with leading printer suppliers, "plug and play" compatibility with existing hardware and an easy transition path to Gen 2. The AD-210 is fully compatible with industry-leading RFID hardware and is a drop-in solution for the current label format of four inches by one-half inch in Gen 1 (Class 1, 96-bit) systems. The AD-410, a Gen 1 inlay, is designed for superior performance in a range of carton and pallet applications with a variety of carton contents.
