Compact, Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) solution employs innovative antenna technology to increase performance while reducing deployment cost by over $1,000

Leading UHF Gen 2 radio frequency identification (RFID) technology provider Impinj, Inc., today announced the launch of the Speedway® xPortal™ integrated portal reader, which incorporates the company's industry-leading Speedway Revolution reader with innovative Dual-Linear Phased-Array (DLPA) antenna technology in a compact, easy-to-install package. The Speedway xPortal delivers superior performance and unmatched installation versatility for RFID read points at doorways, hallways and general zone coverage in retail, office, hospitality and healthcare environments.

Core to Speedway xPortal's outstanding performance is Impinj's Speedway Revolution reader, featuring patented AutopilotTM technology, which continuously and automatically optimizes the reader for its operating environment to deliver peak performance at all times. The reader also features dynamic antenna switching, which improves throughput and efficiency by sensing where tags are in the field and automatically focusing more time on the largest tag populations in view. The Speedway xPortal combines the reader with a compact DLPA antenna to provide outstanding coverage in all applications. Unlike traditional circularly or linearly polarized antennas, Speedway xPortal's DLPA antenna optimizes power delivery regardless of tag orientation. The combination of Speedway Revolution and DLPA antenna technology results in a high performance, portal-based solution that ensures maximum system reliability and read rates in an optimized read zone.

Designed to make RFID portal deployment and operation easy and hassle-free, Speedway xPortal is the highest performance integrated portal reader on the market today, but up to 20 times smaller than conventional portal designs. In addition to the compact form factor, the Speedway xPortal supports Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) and has multiple mounting options for real-world deployment challenges, including keyhole slots, clearance holes, and threaded fasteners for VESA mount patterns used by standard flat screen mounting brackets or stands. Data and power can pass through conveniently located conduit knockouts on the top and bottom edges of the Speedway xPortal or through the back for flush mount configurations. The aesthetically pleasing, low profile design makes the Speedway xPortal ideal for exposed placement in almost any public setting.

"With the introduction of Speedway xPortal, we combine the unrivaled performance of our Speedway Revolution reader with sophisticated antenna technology to deliver outstanding business results," said Kerry Krause, vice president of marketing at Impinj. "The xPortal is surprisingly small, easy to install and use, and leverages DLPA to deliver industry leading read reliability in myriad portal and doorway applications. We are excited about how this versatile product can benefit end-users in the fast growing UHF RFID market."

The Speedway xPortal integrated portal reader measures just 30.5 x 8.75 x 2 in (77.5 x 22.2 x 5 cm) and weighs under 10 lbs (4.5 kg). FCC and ETSI models will be available in June 2010 at an MSRP of $2,495.

The Speedway xPortal integrated portal reader will be on display in the Impinj booth (#320) at the 8th Annual RFID Journal Live Conference & Exposition in Orlando, Florida, April 14–16, 2010.
