Recent articles questioning the use of WiFi-based RFID asset tracking (Real Time Locating Systems or RTLS) in healthcare suggest that the ROI has yet to be proven, despite reports from multiple vendors and healthcare providers who have implemented pilots. On the one hand, they're right — simply sticking an RFID tag on an asset is fairly useless. On the other hand, they're wrong — the limitation isn't necessarily with RFID but with back-end systems.
