Digital Angel Secures $6M Three-Year Contract From Bonneville Power Administration

Digital Angel ,an advanced technology company in the field of rapid and accurate identification, location tracking and condition monitoring of high-value assets, announced recently it has secured a three-year, $6 M order from the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA), a federal agency under the U.S. Department of Energy, for Passive Integrated Transponder (PIT) technology. PIT is used in conjunction with a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) antenna to monitor salmon movement and dam passage.

Zeke Mejia, Chief Technology Officer of Digital Angel, said: "We have worked with the BPA for many years and this latest order is further confirmation of our ongoing successful relationship. We continue to supply BPA with cutting-edge technology, including the world's largest RIFD antenna, to quickly and accurately observe and protect BPA's regional fisheries."

Since the late 1980s, Digital Angel has worked with Portland-based BPA and the federal Columbia and Snake River hydroelectric projects to develop, manufacture and install implantable PIT in the native salmon population, which represents a vital resource to the local community. The species' vulnerability to pollution, weather changes and over-fishing, makes BPA's monitoring program a crucial element in their survival. Digital Angel's ground-breaking technology allows the BPA to effectively monitor the local salmon populations as they migrate through a river system that encompasses an elaborate network of dams and contributories.
