Active RFID: RF Code And Ohio University Showcase Real-Time Location And Sensor Solutions

Center for Automatic Identification Will Feature Leading Active RFID Technology for Public Demonstration and Research

RF Code, Inc., a leading provider of real-time, high definition location solutions, announced today it is providing Ohio University's Center for Automatic Identification with a permanent, interactive demonstration of RF Code's Real-Time Location and Sensor (RTLS) solution. The Center for Automatic Identification is part of the Fritz J. and Dolores H. Russ College of Engineering and Technology.

RF Code has donated radio frequency identification (RFID) readers, tags, and software to be tested by the center so it can provide unbiased information on active RFID's potential and challenges. The demonstration is the first RTLS solution to be evaluated by the center, which is the nation's oldest university-based center devoted solely to the subject of automatic identification.

"RF Code is proud to contribute to the innovative RTLS research being done in universities today by partnering with institutions like the Center for Automatic Identification," said RF Code's chief technology officer, Nissim Ozer. "We hope that our involvement will continue to advance Automatic Identification and Data Collection (AIDC) and provide feedback that will help us to grow our reputation for creating the highest quality RTLS solutions on the market."

Kevin Berisso, director of the Center for Automatic Identification and assistant professor in the Ohio University's Department of Industrial Technology, says the RTLS solution has a high penetration level. This is an important aspect of the equipment because real-world applications are rarely installed in wide open, RF-friendly environments. "We've been able to get consistently accurate data from the readers, even through the thick walls and metal shelves of our testing area," Berisso said. "We're also using RF Code's tags and readers during our 20th annual Automatic Identification and Data Capture Technical Institute later this month to demonstrate the value of RTLS in warehouse situations."

The Center for Automatic Identification is using RF Code's patented signaling technologies in the form of Mantis tags and readers and highly scalable TAVIS software. The TAVIS software suite is a comprehensive management platform which provides unprecedented, high-definition location accuracy. In addition, TAVIS tracks asset state or status through its sensor management applications. The Mantis active RFID tags and readers incorporate advanced technologies which provide high functionality at the lowest cost.

About Ohio University's Center for Automatic Identification
The Center for Automatic Identification is the nation's first university- based center devoted solely to the subject matter of automatic identification. Established in 1988, the mission of the center is to serve as a focal point for research and education related to the field of automatic data capture. Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC), which includes technologies such as bar coding, magnetic stripe, radio frequency identification, direct part marking and voice data entry are being applied within numerous business environments to increase data accuracy and improve productivity. Mandates such as those from the Department of Defense, Wal-Mart and Target are further increasing awareness and the need for education in AIDC technologies. As an unbiased, vendor-neutral entity, the Center is in a position to objectively educate AIDC users, conduct un-biased AIDC research or review equipment for end-users.
