Santa Fe Optical is a successful retailer offering designer eyeglass frames to its clientele in Austin, Texas.
When Owner Dr. Bob Ross opened his third location in an upscale neighborhood, he quickly realized that he had a problem. His store was losing as much as $5,000 worth of designer eyeglass frames in a single month to a combination of what he believed to be an organized group of thieves and "casual" shoplifters, both of whom were targeting his new location.
"Keeping the frames under lock and key impedes the customer's ability to interact with the merchandise", says Dr. Ross. "Choosing a pair of eyeglasses is a very personal, emotional decision. Keeping the merchandise locked up would have negatively impacted sales."
Electronic Inventory Solutions (EIS), of Carrollton, TX and a partner of Avery Dennison, had an RFID security system in mind, and approached Avery Dennison's Supplies Engineering team for a custom supplies solution. The solution needed to be small, flexible and unobtrusive.
