SMARTRAC Reaches Production Milestone For High Security RFID Inlays In The U.S.
January 19, 2010
SMARTRAC N.V., a leading manufacturer and supplier of RFID transponders, today announced that it has reached a production milestone in its certified high security production facility in Chanhassen, Minnesota. In December 2009, production of RFID components from SMARTRAC's production location in the United States of America reached 500,000 highly secure ePassport inlays in one single month for the first time.
"This production milestone in our U.S. facility underlines our leading market position as supplier of highly secure RFID inlays for personal eID documents", says Dr. Christian Fischer, CEO of SMARTRAC. "We are very pleased that the overall development of the U.S. facility is well underway and that the ramp-up of production capacity is on track."
The majority of RFID inlays produced in the production facility in Chanhassen caters towards high security applications such as ePassports and eID Cards and is manufactured with SMARTRAC's advanced and proprietary wire-embedding technology.
The facility in the U.S. is part of the company's global network of certified high security production facilities in Asia, Europe and the U.S. which comply with different security standards, among them a site certificate supporting EAL5+ assurance level.
SMARTRAC acquired HEI Inc.'s RFID division in the U.S. in 2007. The production site has subsequently been converted to the specific requirements of the Group and furnished with the machinery and equipment needed for the mass production of RFID inlays with the company's proprietary and patented wire-embedding technology. In addition, several certification processes had to be completed before the site was able to take up volume production of highly secure RFID eID inlays at the beginning of 2009.
