Recognizing the high risk and potential costs resulting from supply chain tampering, many companies are exploring the use of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology to better track and protect products. RFID technology in applications ranging from tracking airline baggage to inventory management of pharmaceutical supplies to purses, RFID can bring true security throughout the supply chain.

By eliminating the need for line-of-sight access to the tags, RFID provides greater product visibility across the supply chain, enabling the tracking of individual items to the final point of sale. When properly implemented, RFID improves productivity in shipping and receiving, minimizes touch labor, increases shipping accuracy and reduces out-of-stock levels at the retail store. By zeroing in on individual item tags precisely linked to a product's history, RFID can also reduce time spent identifying products for recall, and enables more tightly targeted recalls.

Did you know that RFID – when it includes tamper evident technology - is also a means to combat supply chain theft and counterfeiting?
