Case Study: Paramount Farms Speeds Load Processing Time By 60 Percent With Intermec RFID
At Paramount Farms, workers know that small things can have a way of growing into something truly impressive. The company is the world's largest supplier of almonds and pistachio nuts, selling to more than 20 countries. In addition to being California's largest almond producer, Paramount Farms grows and processes about 60 percent of the U.S. pistachio crop. Half of that crop comes from 50,000 acres of orchards and processing facilities in Lost Hills, Calif.; the rest comes from a network of nearly 400 grower partners.
"The big challenge with a pistachio harvest is that once it starts, there's no way to stop it," said Dave Szeflin, Paramount's vice president of operations. "In our average harvest season, incoming green product totals a half billion pounds over a six-week period. Given this time constraint, as we increase our production goals, our efficiency and productivity must likewise increase."
