White Paper: Assessing RFID Threats To Ensure RFP Success
By Andrew Strauch, MIKOH Corporation
The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) is one of the primary drivers for RFID technology adoption. There are numerous RFPs issued for RFID solutions to address a myriad of applications across the DOD and wider government market.
The general purpose of most RFPs focuses on ensuring that the resulting RFID solutions worked. That is simply no longer enough. The DOD is now pushing for RFID implementations that deliver ROI through specific value-add features. However, the desired solutions do not align with current government specifications for RFID.
In reality, these specifications should focus on properly applying RFID for the specific application. Little attention is paid to true value-added features. For example, very little of the current RFID specifications address physical security or tamper indication despite volatile environmental risks of the RFID application.
